Guitarist Stefan Doroschuk noted that, “The Safety Dance is about nonconformism and everyone’s ability to leave their friends behind and strike out on their own” and was inspired by an incident where bouncers kicked them out of a bar for pogo dancing. The Safety Dance, released in 1982, was their only real commercial success, reaching to #3 on the Billboard 100. The band name came from the brothers’ motto of style before comfort, which included refusing to wear hats in Canada’s cold winters. ![]() All three were classically trained musicians who were born in Illinois but move to Canada as children. The frontman from the band, Ivan Doroschuk, was joined by his two brothers Stefan and Colin in this reboot.
